Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The majority of time spent on this trip to the United Arab Emirates was in Abu Dhabi and the sand dunes of Liwa (Empty Quarters). Flying in and out from Dubai provided some glimpses of the skyscrapers, particularly the Burj Khalifa, the tallest structure in the world at a towering 2,722 ft. Did not get a chance to check out the observation deck on this trip, maybe the next time around.

Another well recognized building in Dubai, the Burj Al Arab hotel sits right on Jumeirah Beach. The sail shaped building epitomizes luxury of the Emirates in terms of a hotel and dining.

For a more “real” feel of Dubai and away from the glitz and glamour of the modern malls and skyscrapers, I was able to walk around old Dubai, the little India part of town, navigating through the narrow streets of the Gold and Spice souqs that lined the Dubai Creek. For just one UAE Dirham, you can take these wooden dhow ferries across the creek to various docks on the other side.
