Rome, Italy
A trip to Rome isn’t complete without touring all the historical Roman monuments and eating abundant Italian food. The amount of history in Rome is overwhelming and it’s impossible to see and experience it all in one single visit, more reasons to come back! I checked off the major attractions off my list pretty well, considering no planning was done until the night before my trip when I purchased a Rick Steve’s guidebook to Rome and read it on the plane ride over.
Visiting the Vatican City first thing in the morning is absolutely the best way to go if you want to avoid queueing hours in line if you arrive later on during the day.

Walking around St. Peter’s Square and the Basilica was great to see all the history and famous pieces of artwork there from names such as Michelangelo amongst the many. The significance of the Vatican City is quite palpable throughout the time there as you realize the importance this place has in millions of people worldwide. Paying the extra fee to climb the dome to the top of Vatican City was a worthy entrance ticket. The panoramic views of Vatican City within Rome was spectacular, even more so given the day was clear and sunny.

The Colosseum is just about as synonymous to Rome as is pizza to Italy. Getting a chance to see the Colosseum from the outside was quite amazing to see how well it has held out over the years for the most part. In addition to the views outside, I paid the entrance ticket for the opportunity to walk around and see it from the inside, worth the time queuing.
