Bogotá, Colombia
The capital of Colombia, Bogotá is a sprawling city in size and the number of Colombians living there. The city is super diverse with its different neighborhoods, each with a unique yet vibrant feel to it, from historical colonial districts of La Candelaria to the more modern Zona Rosa area with shopping and international food scene.
Plaza Bolívar is the main city square located in the city center of La Candelaria. Surrounding the square you will find buildings such as the Cathedral of Colombia, National Capitol and various government buildings each with historical significance and architectural uniqueness. The square is super lively at all times with locals, tourists and vendors alike.

Bogotá has no shortage of shops and vendors selling just about every type of souvenir and snacks you want. The Colombian designs are radiating with color and excellent craftsmanship from ranging from hand woven bags to wooden carvings.

Tejo, a traditional Colombian sport very much resembling cornhole toss here in the United States. No pun intended but it’s safe to say Tejo is far more exciting because it’s played with mini packets of gunpowder, if hit by the tejo, results in a loud explosion! This will bring the excitement level up a few notches. Given it’s a working mans game, you’ll often see these Tejo clubs packed with people playing while going through crates and crates of cheap Colombian beer as a social activity.

The Gold Museum in town has so many artifacts of pre-Spanish Colombian gold that it can be overwhelming. These pieces of gold are were crafted into many shapes and designs such as masks, miniature animal figures and other articles of jewelry/protection.

Guatavita – Lake Guatavita
Lake Guatavita is another big tourist attraction for locals and foreigners alike. Situated about 2 hours north of Bogotá in the mountains region, it’s the setting for the legend of El Dorado and the place where the gold was dumped luring the Spanish here. The lagoon is surrounded by lush vegetation while perched high up with some breathtaking views of Colombia’s green countryside as you hike up to see it. Nearby the lagoon is the town of Guatavita, a very calming and scenic place with various boutiques and aesthetically appealing while buildings and orange stone roofs.
